Trailhead offers three injectable medications. Injectable formats mean you receive your dose at the facility on a set schedule. No daily pills to manage, no risk of diversion, and no daily clinic visits.
Vivitrol is a monthly injection that blocks opioid receptors and reduces alcohol cravings. It treats both opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. Vivitrol does not contain opioids. It works by preventing opioids and alcohol from producing their rewarding effects, which reduces the drive to use.
Vivitrol requires full detox from opioids before the first injection. It is often the medication of choice for people who have completed detox at another facility and are transitioning to outpatient care.
Sublocade is a monthly injection for opioid use disorder. It delivers a steady dose of buprenorphine, which reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms without producing a high at therapeutic doses. Sublocade eliminates the need for daily oral buprenorphine (Suboxone) and provides consistent medication levels throughout the month.
For people who have struggled with daily medication adherence, the monthly injection removes one barrier from the recovery process.
Brixadi is a newer formulation of injectable buprenorphine for opioid use disorder. It offers weekly and monthly dosing options, giving prescribers more flexibility when starting or adjusting treatment. Brixadi and Sublocade use the same active ingredient but differ in their delivery systems.
The weekly option is particularly useful during the early weeks of treatment when clinical teams are finding the right dose.

You receive your injectable medication while participating in our Partial Hospitalization Program or Intensive Outpatient Program. This combines daily or multi-day clinical programming with medication management. It is the most comprehensive option for people early in recovery or managing co-occurring mental health conditions.
You receive your medication alongside regular individual therapy sessions. This works if you don’t need or want group programming but benefit from ongoing clinical support in addition to your medication.
You come in for your injection on schedule and maintain your recovery independently. This option is for people in stable recovery who are receiving therapy elsewhere or have completed a program and need continued medication management only.
Clinical Director Alysia LaGambina, LICSW, and your clinical team determine the right model through an ASAM assessment during intake. The assessment evaluates your substance use history, mental health, medical needs, and recovery environment to match you with the appropriate level of care.

Trailhead does not dispense methadone on-site. If you are receiving methadone from an outside clinic, you can still participate in any of our programs. We coordinate care with your external MAT provider so that your medication and your therapy work together.
If you have a prescriber outside of Trailhead managing your buprenorphine or naltrexone, our clinical team communicates with your existing providers to ensure continuity and avoid gaps in care.
